The Longevity of Your Wedding Memories...

Have you ever stopped to ponder the immense significance of your wedding memories? Chances are, your immediate reaction to that question is an emphatic, "Of course, they're everything!" However, when it comes to storing the tangible keepsakes of those cherished moments, many find themselves on uncertain ground. If your response to the inquiry about the current storage of your wedding captures is a bit hesitant and sheepish, you're certainly not alone in this dilemma. In the fast-paced world we live in, the storage of our most precious memories often takes a back seat, and that realization haunts my thoughts.

The Reality Check:

In today's digital age, the majority of people unwittingly neglect the proper storage of their most cherished memories. The gravity of this oversight is not lost on me. The horror stories of forever lost images and videos due to poor archival processes are truly devastating. It's a harsh reality that has fueled my deep commitment to spreading the importance of proper archival storage like a sacred gospel. Why? Because your wedding memories are a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and they undeniably matter.

The Stakes:

Picture this: a digital treasure trove of your most precious moments, forever lost due to inadequate archival measures. It's a heart-wrenching scenario that plays out far too often. Your wedding day is a culmination of love, joy, and unforgettable moments – moments that deserve to be preserved with the utmost care and consideration. The stakes are high, and the need for proper archival storage has never been more critical.

How To Archive Your Wedding Photos & Videos:

Archiving Digital Image & Cinema Files;

  • Download all scans & digital images/films as soon as possible.
  • Duplicate files and back up in three separate permanent locations - multiple formats are best for this (example: Dropbox, on a flash drive, and on a solid-state hard drive).
  • Regularly back up online and cloud files. Store solid-state hard drives containing all wedding content in a fireproof lockbox, and keep it in a room-temperature place (i.e. not a cold garage or particularly stuffy attic).

Archiving Film Negatives & Polaroid Prints;

  • Keep or place all film negatives in plastic sleeves or film-designated containers.
  • Store negatives in a cool, dry place. Avoid extreme temperatures/humidity, as these can accelerate deterioration of the film.Store negatives vertically to prevent warping and sticking. Avoid rolling them tightly.
  • Film scans, when properly maintained and stored, are incredibly long-lasting and versatile. They can be re-scanned at any time to your preferred file size, either at home or via a film lab.
