What Is Super 8mm Film?
Super 8mm film is a motion picture film format that was popularized in the 1960s and 1970s. Its a smaller format compared to the standard 8mm film, and offers higher image quality.
Super 8mm film initially became a popular choice for capturing wedding videos due to its portability, ease of use, and aesthetic qualities. We love this medium for it's distinct nostalgic and vintage look, featuring a characteristic grain, vibrant colors, and occasional light leaks. These visual characteristics evoke a sense of nostalgia and romance, making it an especially appealing choice for capturing special moments like weddings.
We offer the option between 100% Super 8mm wedding films as well as hybrid Super 8mm & HD digital wedding films.
About Us
Hi, we’re Kayla & Zach, a wedding documentation duo specializing in artful documentary photography & videography.
We utilize a hybrid medium style of capture — combining 35mm, medium format, instant film, Super 8mm cine film, as well as digital photography and videography, to create a nostalgic and timeless documentation experience completely unique to each couple we work with.
We understand that the memories captured on your special day are some of the most important professional documentation you will have of yourself and your loved ones — and trust me, they truly are! Looking back at our own wedding documentation, it’s the candid, real moments that we hold closest to our hearts. It’s those captures that we cherish and display proudly on our walls, and it's those captures that we want to provide for you and your loved ones too.
On wedding days you’ll typically find us with no less than three cameras around our shoulders & necks per person at any given time. We focus on allowing our intuition and the emotion of a moment to guide where and how our lens moves, and what we capture. We craft our imagery to be sophisticated, filled with emotion, and truly timeless - meant to be relived and revisited time and time again, allowing you and your loved ones to remember & cherish exactly how it all felt for generations to come.
Our Story
We met over a dating app, the classic modern day meet-cute! After about a week of non-stop messaging while I was simultaneously moving across state lines, we met up for coffee in my new home city. We hit it off in person just as well as we had virtually, and became inseparable immediately! We spent the next year together constantly, bonding over capturing photos together, spontaneous road trips, and more sweet mundane moments than I can count. Within a year we were living together, engaged, and parents to a sweet adopted bunny. We "u-hauled" it pretty full on, and 6 months after getting engaged we said "I do"!
Fast forward to the present day and you can find us enjoying our life as a married duo in Minneapolis. Our time spent capturing weddings connect us not only to the incredible couples and love stories we get to create with, but also to one another and the magic of our own love story. We fill our time not capturing weddings indulging creative pursuits, pulling tarot cards, meditating, listening to & making music (Z is also a producer!), taking photo walks, partaking in co-op runs, and all things analog film.
